Metropolitan region

The metropolitan region Rhein-Neckar, which has been awarded by the European Union, ranges from A for Absteinach to Z for Zwingenberg.

As one of the most important business locations in Germany, the region shows an impressive development potential: socially, economically and cultural-ly. Numerous multinational corporations are at home here. Universities and other institutions enjoy an international reputation - not least because of the many inventions that enriched our lives and still do.

The 2.3 million people living here make the area quite unique. Perhaps it is the combination of the three federal states of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. Perhaps it is the unique harmony of pioneering spririt and tradition. Or maybe it is the boundless diversity of the region.

Experience the extraordinary diversity and go on a discovery tour of the region: Speyer with its imposing cathedral, the Nibelungen town Worms and the castle in Schwetzingen are always worth a trip.

Karlsruhe, which is only 60km north of Mannheim is offering its visitors many opportunities to make recreation and culture a real experience: the Baden State Theatre Karlsruhe, offering opera, theater and ballet, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, one of Germany's most important museums and the Botanical Garden are just a few of the numerous offers to have a good time.

In addition to its cultural diversity, Karlsruhe has also established itself as an economic center. A number of important companies and corporations have their headquarters here, e.g. "dm Drogeriemarkt", a strongly represented retailer in Germany. EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG, a global energy company, that runs the Rhine port-steam power plant is also located in Karlsruhe as well as Siemens AG with one of the largest and oldest sites in Germany.

With the Siemens Industrial Park Karlsruhe, the city is an attractive business center for companies in the high-tech and service industries.
